BIG BANG THEORY - SEASON TWO

A family member gave me this season two set ( and a bunch of other sets also ). The discs are really scratched, and yet, they all play perfectly! It's missing the cardboard sleeve, but I don't care.... it was FREE!

BIG BANG THEORY SEASON TWO has four discs ( 23 episodes ).

The set was released by WARNER BROS ( region one ).

Two flaps hold two discs each. They're housed in a transparent standard sized case.

The DVD cover is printed on both sides. There's also an eight sided 'fold-out' style booklet.

All the episodes are presented in widescreen.

Three special features are found on the fourth disc. Those extras are...
1 - PHYSICIST TO THE STARS
2 - TESTING THE INFINITE HILARITY HYPOTHESIS IN RELATION TO THE BIG BANG THEORY
3 - GAG REEL

Screengrabs from the episode THE MATERNAL CAPACITANCE... Penny ( Kaley Cuoco ) and Leonard ( Johnny Galecki ), doing tequila shots and transfering a lime wedge from her mouth to his - he also got to lick her pretty neck... I've said it before, and I'm going to say it again... some guys have all the luck!

Screengrab and quote from the episode THE FINANCIAL PERMEABILITY.....

Penny - "What are you saying?.. That I'm using my body to get dinner?.. That I'm some sort of Chinese food prostitute?!"

Quotes from the episode THE PANTY PINATA POLARIZATION.....

Leonard - "Hey, for the record, what you guys are doing is really creepy"

Howard - "You know what?.. If it's creepy to use the internet, military satellites and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models, so that I can drop in on them unexpectedly, then fine, I'm creepy"

Screengrabs and quotes from THE DEAD HOOKER JUXTAPOSITITION.....

Howard - "According to Alicia's facebook page, she's hooking-up with one of the producers of CSI"

Penny - "Well, dead hooker on TV, live one in real life"

Screengrabs from THE HOFSTADTER ISOTOPE.

Screengrab from THE MONOPOLAR EXPEDITION.

I usually avoid sitcoms at all costs. The BIG BANG THEORY is different, and I mean that in a good way.

For a show that airs on a free channel, it's well above average, in regards to writing and acting.

The writers have done a truly amazing job. They've successfully combined intelligent dialogue, human nature, and gutter humor, into a tasty cinematic burrito.

All the characters are human, NOT caricatures. The same is also true of the secondary characters.

I also love the camera work.

Everyone involved with this show really does an incredible job, and I really mean that.

Screengrabs above are from... clockwise from top left, WORK SONG MANOCLUSTER, BATH ITEM GIFT, HYPOTHESIS BARBARIAN SUBLIMATION, and FRIENDSHIP ALGORITHM.

There's more intelligently written dialogue in one scene of BIG BANG THEORY, than in the entire TEN YEAR run of FRIENDS! The only reason I ever watched FRIENDS, was to drool over Jennifer Aniston ( in those early episodes ).

The acting is also superior to what you usually find on the average American sitcom. Mayim Bialik, Kaley Cuoco, and Melissa Rauch, don't seem to get the same amount of respect as the actors. I don't think that's right.

let me give you an example... I never thought much of Kaley Cuoco as an actress, but after watching her perform in this show, I now see her differently. During some of the scenes I've watched, her performances have matched and even surpassed people like Lauren Graham. I can't even pronounce most of the scientific words that have come out of her mouth, let alone say them in such a precise and rapid manner! She's truly amazing.

Screengrabs from the episode THE KILLER ROBOT INSTABILITY

Quote from the episode THE LIZARD-SPOCK EXPANSION.....

Penny - "You started by asking if I was from Mars, because my ass was out of this world"

I've disliked most of the shows that Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady have been part of, but I truly love this one.

Above are two of Chuck Lorre's vanity cards.

FYI - Chuck Lorre wrote an episode of TOXIC CRUSADERS.

Quote from the episode THE PANTY PINATA POLARIZATION.....

Sheldon - "I suggest you get a very long stick and play panty pinata"

I hate it, when I hear some ass-tard say "it's not perfect"... Give me a fucking break!... NOTHING is PERFECT!... NOTHING! Just remember that, and you'll enjoy life much more.

Anyway, this show has become cinematic 'comfort food' for me. It makes me laugh, and it makes me very happy.....

MANHATTAN PROJECT

Newspaper ad for MANHATTAN PROJECT ( from June 1986 - Montreal Canada ).

When this movie was new, I watched it in the theater for free.

I thought MANHATTAN PROJECT was going to be a smart-ass teen flick, but I was wrong. This film is NOT business-as-usual.

You may think, that you're going to hate John Lithgow's charater, but you don't, because he's NOT a bad guy.

This movie is well written, and I really liked it, and still do.

MANHATTAN PROJECT was written by Marshall Brickman and Thomas Baum. It was also directed by Marshall Brickman.

It stars, Christopher Collet, Cynthia Nixon, John Lithgow, Jill Eikenberry, John Mahoney and other familar faces.

Cynthia Nixon looks so cute in this movie, and seeing her with long hair brought back a flood of memories. She reminded me of someone I was very fond of during my last year in high school. One day she told me, what I was feeling for her was infatuation, not love. Well, she was right.

The last time I saw her, I said some stupid things - if I could take those words back, I would. In my defense, my mind was full of unpleasant things that were happening in my life at the time.

Anyway, I think this is a very underrated film.

This movie was released on VHS by HBO / CANNON.

I'm not sure, but I think it was also released on BETA.

You can also find it on region one DVD by MGM. A company called KINO LORBER has also released it on pressed disc.

KINO LORBER has released it on BLU-RAY.

SOMETHING IS OUT THERE

Screengrabs above are from SOMETHING IS OUT THERE.

This four hour sci-fi / horror / action mini-series aired on NBC in the late eighties. There was also a regular series, but I don't remember ever watching it.

In my opinion, this mini-series had a lot in common with a movie called THE HIDDEN.

Screengrabs above are from SOMETHING IS OUT THERE.

I remember being more than a little surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Newspaper blurb for SOMETHING IS OUT THERE ( from May 8, 1988 - Spokane Washington ).

Screengrabs above are from SOMETHING IS OUT THERE.

It was written by Frank Lupo and directed by Richard A. Colla.

It is beautifully filmed.

This was NOT your typical mini-series.

Love the creature effects, especially when the monster is bursting out of a human host. You usually don't see things like that on 'free' tv ( at least not in the United States ).

Newspaper tv listing for SOMETHING IS OUT THERE ( from May 8, 1988 - Daytona Beach Florida ).

SOMETHING IS OUT THERE stars, Joe Cortese, Maryam d'Abo, George Dzundza, Gregory Sierra, Kim Delaney, and many other familiar faces.

Screengrabs above are from SOMETHING IS OUT THERE.

As far as I know, this mini-series was never officially released on VHS in the United States, or on region one DVD.

Apparently, this is part of SONY's film library - So, I'm hoping MILL CREEK ENTERTAINMENT will release the mini-series and series on region one DVD.

I found both, part one and two - German dubbed edition - of the mini-series on YOUTUBE. There are also clips online.

Screengrab of the GET TV webpage for SOMETHING IS OUT THERE.

The 'free' tv channel called GET TV recently aired this mini-series - April 2017 ( it also aired on a cable channel called SciFi ). Check your local istings for repeat airings in your area. I plan on recording it onto a DVD+RW the next time it's shown on GET TV.

ULTIMATE DEGENERATE & SOUL SNATCHER

Above is a newspaper ad for THE ULTIMATE DEGENERATE, THE SOUL SNATCHER, and a stripper ( from Youngstown Ohio 1969 ).

Can you imagine getting to watch TWO movies for a low price AND see a stripper perform for a little more?.... Now, that's value!... ha-ha-ha.

Screengrabs above are from THE ULTIMATE DEGENERATE.

THE ULTIMATE DEGENERATE.....

Michael Findlay, what an artistic eye he had, and I really mean that. There are so many beautiful shots in his movies.

His dialogue is almost always over-the-top, and yet, it's fucking brilliant!

I don't know what else to say.

Screengrabs above are from THE SOUL SNATCHER.

THE SOUL SNATCHER.....

I really like this short film.

A devilish dude gives a woman some gold heels, and trouble ensues.

FYI - Darlene Bennett is in this flick.

I love looking at all the vehicles, the buildings, and even the clothes they're all wearing. Movies truly are the only form of TIME TRAVEL.

I'm NOT sure, but I think both of these movies were released by SOMETHING WEIRD on pressed disc, DVD-R, and download.

Let me throw some names at you, Edward D. Wood Jr, Ray Dennis Steckler, Michael Findlay, Larry Buchanan, Doris Wishman, Barry Mahon, and a bunch of other filmmakers... After all this time, people are still watching and searching for their 'lost' films. That says a lot of positive things about their work. How many people are going to search for 'lost' films made by most of the disposable so-called 'mainstream' directors?

DEAR UNITED AIRLINES.....

Dear UNITED AIRLINES, you are a bunch of ARROGANT, UNgrateful, FUCKING AFTERBIRTHS!

Apparently, airlines are above the law.

Quote from the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS ( April 11, 2017 ) - "Doctor pulled from United Airlines flight previously convicted of drug crimes, stripped of medical license"... My response is, SO FUCKING WHAT?! What the hell does his past arrest have to do with UNITED AIRLINE'S nazi-behavior???!!!

UNITED is just plain NUTS!... Quote from the NEW YORK TIMES ( March 26, 2017 ) - "After Barring Girls for Leggings, United Airlines Defends Decision"... They also refused to fly some girls because they were wearing 'leggings'... Oh, the horror!

Almost all companies seem to forget, that withOUT customers, they CEASE TO EXIST!

A little reminder, EVERY company on earth is supposed to KISS our asses, NOT... KICK our asses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS HAS BEEN A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT.....

MOVIES, BOOKS, AND MORE CRAP - APRIL 2017

DOLLAR TREE DVDS.....

I recently found the following 'leftovers' at a couple of my local DOLLAR TREE stores.....

Screengrab of Nicole Kidman in the movie STRANGERLAND.

STRANGERLAND - I liked the story, and as an added bonus you get a great nude scene from Ms. Kidman.

Screengrab from the movie STRANGERLAND.

Just for the record, I've never been fond of her, but she does an excellent job in this film, and I thought she looked attractive too.

WIDEscreen
EXTRAS - Yes, four trailers, and two featurettes
INSERTS - No
PRICE - $1.00

Screengrabs above are from the film 360, the best part of the movie - in my opinion.

360 - I thought this movie was a bit pretentious, but beautifully filmed.

EXTRAS - Yes, six trailers and two featurettes
INSERTS - No
PRICE - $1.00

GOOD PEOPLE - I didn't have high hopes for this film, and yet I enjoyed it tremendously!

Screengrabs from the film GOOD PEOPLE.

The irresistibly cute Kate Hudson and somewhat annoying James Franco play an American couple living in London. They're broke, and then things get worse after they find their basement tenant dead. The dead tenant double-crossed his partners during a robbery and murdered one of them.

He stashed the cash in the false ceiling of his room. The couple finds the money and end up fighting for their lives. I had a fun time watching this - especially for one dollar!

Screengrabs from the film GOOD PEOPLE.

As an added bonus, Kate Hudson's beautiful and shapely behind makes an uncredited appearance.

One dollar well spent!

COMPANY - Millennium
RATING - R
WIDEscreen
EXTRAS - Yes, four trailers and one featurette
INSERTS - No
PRICE - $1.00
OBTAINED AT - DOLLAR TREE

Screengrabs from the movie MR. NOBODY.

MR. NOBODY - Warning, this is a LONG movie!

I really liked it on a visual level, but the story just seemed to drag on, and on, and on, and on. To the point were I statred to fall asleep.

Some movies leave you with a cold and distant feeling, and MR. NOBODY had that effect on me. I would NOT be able to sit through it a second time.

COMPANY - Magnolia
RATING - UNrated
WIDEscreen
EXTRAS - Yes, six trailers, one featurette, and deleted scenes
INSERTS - No
PRICE - $1.00

BARGAIN BOOKS.....

THE YUGO THE RISE AND FALL OF THE WORST CAR IN HISTORY - This was a quick read. I really enjoyed this book. The title is sensationalistic and false, and that initially put me off. But, I was willing to take a chance, and I'm happy I did.

I could nit-pick about some things, but I won't.

This book covers a lot of territory, such as Malcolm Bricklin, banks / savings and loans, the BRICKLIN coupe, people doing business without money, the way communist countries did business with capitalist countries, marketing, and more.

Believe it or not, even Henry Kissinger played a part in ZASTAVA's adventures in America.

I saw the first Zastava Yugos imported into the United States. They were at a show called AUTO EXPO. Do NOT confuse AUTO EXPO with the LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW.

FYI... BITTER, a luxury German car maker - they were just rebodied OPELS - also had a display there. The men running the YUGO and BITTER booths did not have anything complimentary to say about each other's products. Also, YUGO was a model, but became a make in most export markets.

A while later, I remember attending AUTO EXPO and noticing how light the crowd was, and soon after, there were no more AUTO EXPOs.

Anyway, YUGOs were also present at the LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW. I could not find any photos. However, I still have some of my auto show negatives, and I did find a frame with a YUGO. I think I took the photo at the 1990 LOS ANGELES AUTO SHOW.

FYI - The UGLY FIAT 500L is allegedly built in the former ZASTAVA factory that made YUGOs. This info is NOT in the book, because it was published before this troll of an automobile went on sale. And another thing, do any of you remember CADILLAC's equipped with the V-8-6-4 motor?... Can you say, OVERPRICED L-E-M-O-N?....

Below is a link to a video that briefly features a YUGO and a few other small cars. It was shot at the 1987 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW... FYI - The PONTIAC in this video, is really a DAEWOO ( based on the OPEL KADETT )... I'd much rather have the cute spokesmodel, the MITSUBISHI is a HYUNDAI, the FORD is really a KIA PRIDE ( based on the MAZDA 121 / FORD of JAPAN FESTIVA ), and the MERCURY is based on the MAZDA FAMILIA aka 323.... I've always HATED badge engineering!.....

1987 CHICAGO AUTO SHOW

BARGAIN COMICS.....
I found some more comics at one of my local DOLLAR TREE stores.

I noticed Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko's names on the cover, and that was enough for me to purchase this fine publication for the extravagant sum of ONE DOLLAR.

When I ripped open the bag, I found a mail order booklet for the company that bags these bargain comic and trading card combos, one pack of trading cards for some animated flick from the nineties, two loose Elvis trading cards, and issue number four of a comic called SECRET CITY SAGA.

The comic was factory sealed in it's own bag. The bag also contained three trading cards. Everything was published by TOPPS.

The cover art is credited to Steve Ditko and George Perez ( so was one of the trading cards ).

THE CREEPS MAGAZINE.....

If you're old enough to remember horror comic magzines like EERIE, CREEPY - and countless others. Then you know what to expect from this publication.

I liked the artwork and enjoyed the eight short stories.

Issue 9 has fifty-two pages, and costs $5.95.

I intend to purchase the next issue, IF I can find it.

FYI - This issue has a 'letters to the editor' section. Two of the letters are from Nicola Cuti and James Allen.

Above is a photo of the Panini Americana / Panini Beach Boys combo trading card display - at one of my local DOLLAR TREE stores... Also pictured, is the wrapper.

PANINI AMERICANA TRADING CARDS.....

While at the DOLLAR TREE I spotted some packs of trading cards called AMERICANA ( by PANINI - from 2015 ).

Above are some of the basic cards ( left side ), and some of the inserts ( right side ).

Some of the packs contain randomly inserted autographed cards. Other packs have material cards with embedded swatches of clothing worn by that person. There are also other types of inserts.

Above is an insert card of actress / inventor Hedy Lamarr.

I was hoping I'd find Bela Lugosi and Jayne Mansfield material cards. Unfortunately, I didn't. However, I did find a Hedy Lamarr material card. The next day, I went back to same location, but the cards were sold out.

Many locations get older packs and once they're gone, that's it. The odds are against them returning.

And that's it, for now.....
